Hidden Gem # 11 – Can Suldat17th October 2016

Hidden Gems is an opportunity for us to let you know that we’ve recently been somewhere that really think you should know about it too!  It might be somewhere we’ve been going for a while, or something we’ve chanced upon for the first time.  It might be a restaurant (like Can Suldat), a bar, a beach…it could be anything at all that has reminded us just why we love living in Ibiza so much!

Can Suldat epitomises everything that a true hidden gem should be, and we love it!  Tucked away on a back road in between Santa Eulalia and Es Canar this lively restaurant resides in a ramshackle finca and guarantees a fantastic evening.  It’s the antidote to the glitz & glamour that is increasingly taking over large swathes of Ibiza, and this is no bad thing.  It has a fantastic decor with ornaments and knick-knacks everywhere you look and have been accumulated over the years

The menu is small, and focuses on generous meat dishes that are cooked on the very visible open grill.  Vegetarian options aren’t plentiful unfortunately but we can vouch for the divine fondue or raclette options.  The wine list is great and doesn’t need to be expensive, and you can be sure to be offered (forced!) a selection of chupitos to enjoy with the charismatic patron.

When all is said and done though, it’s the fun relaxed atmosphere that you will remember for a long time to come.  There is live music every night and when we were there we loved the fantastic up-beat reggae trio that got everyone smiling and some of us up and dancing (after a few glasses of wine!).  And the best thing?  It’s open all year round!  It was still lovely summer weather for our visit, but we will definitely be back for many cosy winter evenings having a sing-song and being kept warm by the open fire.  Check it out!
